Education:

  • Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California, Berkeley, December 1993. Thesis: Tracking Process Technologies in Design Automation. Minor in electronic music.
  • BS in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California, Berkeley May, 1986

Experience:

  • Associate Professor:  Director of Digital Entertainment and Game Development, Established MERECL, School of Design. Hong Kong Polytechnic University, January 2005 – Present.
  • Associate Professor:  Founding Head of the Multimedia Innovation Center. Established the Multimedia Innovation Center (http://mic.polyu.edu.hk) and grew from staff of 3 to 70, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, January 1999 – January 2005.
  • Non-Executive Board Member:  Prime Credit Limited, 2000 – 2004.
  • Assistant Professor: Co-director of the Center for Enhanced Learning Technologies. Established a MPhil multimedia program. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, August 1997 – December 1998.
  • Multimedia Production: Founded Media Electronica, a multimedia production and consulting firm. Clients include Prudential, Toyota, JPL, Patrico Sinare, Chen Hsong, Santa Fe Shipping, and Twinbridge, 1996 – 1997.
  • Research Assistant Professor: Director of the Multimedia Research Laboratory. Planned curriculum for Masters in Multimedia. Established the Teachers Learning Center. Helped to establish the Integrated Media Systems Center, University of Southern California, 1994 – 1997.
  • Research Associate: Created the USC multi-media lab. Selected lab equipment, initiated research projects. Initiated research projects in the area of applying CAD technology to, film and theater, and produced a CD ROM. University of Southern California, 1993 – 1994.
  • Consultant:Continued development of a silicon compiler in Prolog. Guided a student team in the development of VLSI design automation tools for the ADAS system. University of Southern California, 1991 – 1992.
  • Post Graduate Researcher: Development of a silicon compiler in Prolog. University of California at Berkeley, 1985 – 1990.
  • Co-op Intern: Development of CAD layout tools and layout of a FIR filter. Implemented a netlist highlighter and a river router for the MULGA layout system and produced layout cells for a 9 bit 4 tap FIR filter. Bell Communications Research, 1983 – 1984.
  • School Teacher: Taught science, mathematics, astronomy, physics, and chemistry to gifted elementary and high school students through the GATE program. Culver City Unified School District, 1979 – 1982.
